Individual & Family Health Insurance

Purchasing health insurance is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from unexpected happenings.  Rising medical costs provide a legitimate reason to research and learn more about your insurance coverage.  The time to learn about your policy is not after a major illness.

At Great Lakes, we can help you determine which type of policy is best for your situation.  We try to keep it as straight forward as possible while providing you with the most "bang for the buck".

There are ways you can save on your insurance costs.

1. Consider a higher deductible than you have had in the past.  It may seem uncomfortable at first, but you can realize a savings every month that could surpass your increased deductible and continue to save you money for years.

2. Save money on prescriptions by asking for samples, a generic version of your medicine, and buying through the mail for multiple months' supply.  You can also save by finding out if a different dosage of your medicine costs less.  Sometimes splitting a pill can save up to $50 per month!

3. Find out how to make your medical expenses tax deductible and/or how to pay for them with tax-deferred money.  New HSA laws for 2004 can really save you money.  Click here to see more information and how to sign up.  If you are self-employed, it is even simpler to save on taxes.  Call us to find out how to set this up at your business.

4. Work with a broker.  Insurance rates are regulated by the state and will not vary among various agents, so work with someone who gives you the service you deserve.  At Great Lakes, we will always be on the look out for the best policy for YOU!

5. Know when to make a choice for a better policy.  Like the saying goes, "you got what you paid for", there are reasons why some policies cost a little more than others.  Don't be afraid to find out why and see if its worth the extra.

6. Learn to save where you can.  Dental and Vision insurance costs are not always worth the benefits.  If your family doesn't need it regularly, save your money and pay for it yourself when the need arises.

7. Consider an Accident policy to supplement a high deductible policy.  It doesn't cost much and can provide you with most of the initial outlay required to meet your deductible.  It saves far above what a lower deductible policy would charge.  For more information, click here.
